Both the Texas House and Texas Senate have education committees that oversee proposed legislation concerning public schools. The below contacts are from the previous legislative session. There will be new members in the coming session however; this is a great place to start. Additionally, there is a House committee on Juvenile Justice and Family Issues. This is an important committee to contact because much of the reform needed when your child becomes involved with law enforcement (especially school district police) will come from this committee.

Each of these members should be contacted and told that you, as a parent, have rights over your children and you expect these representatives to vote for restoring your rights. Send them a brief version of your child’s experience with the public school disciplinary system and what you want to see changed.
